Sortation Devices & Rejects

Sortation Intentions

Sortation is basically the accurate delivery of items to multiple locations by using the proper technology. The first conveyor sortation device was probably an operator pushing an occasional product off of a conveyor due to a pre-set condition. Although that type of sortation is still done, there are immensely more sophisticated ways now available to sort products to multiple destinations. The trigger can be a count, a color, a bar code, QR Code, RFID, product size, a visual inspection, or other possibilities. Controls can be independent or can interface with your triggering logic. Many of the devices to accomplish sortation are shown here. Other Custom Solutions are available.

Sliding Shoe Sorter

  • Products Divert off main line in both directions, usually at 30 degrees
  • A series of "Shoes" move left and right between the rollers to gently and accurately "guide" products off line and onto the proper spur
  • The control package tracks products and has phenomenal throughput

Live Roller Wheel Diverter

  • A dynamic and proven product where wheels pop up from between rollers to send individual products or slugs off line at 30 degrees
  • Single or double wheel rows to handle various product types
  • An economical solution for most main line sortation needs
  • Used on Lineshaft conveyor, MDR conveyor, and Belt Driven Live Roller conveyor to achieve a relatively substantial throughput

Narrow Belt Sorter (NBS)

  • Multiple Strands of narrow belts
  • 30 degree spurs or right angle transfers pop up between the belts
  • Encoders available to track product
  • Smaller NBS unit for unusual items
  • Excellent case and tote throughput

Pop-Up Transfers

  • Raise up from between rollers, chains, or belts
  • Belt, O-ring, chain type
  • Even Roller transfers within chain conveyor
  • For cases, totes, pallets

Turntables

  • From Incidental degrees up to 360
  • For turning corners, merging, or diverting
  • One-way or Reversing
  • Any conveyor on top

Pushers

  • Typically Pneumatic
  • Light or Heavy Duty
  • Short or long stroke
  • Shear Pushers
  • High speed available

Divert Arms – Power Arms

  • Manual or Automatic
  • Faced with steel, UHMW, other
  • Wheel Diverts
  • Power face Diverts
  • Pneumatic, electrical

Super-Speed Container Diverts

  • Cans and bottles up to 1600/minute
  • Larger bottles up to 300/minute
  • 25-50 pound cases up to 150/minute
  • Power In, Power Out Pusher
  • For individual reject, slug sortation, bar code, QR Code, vision systems, or RFID
  • Pneumatic, DC magnetic, electrical

Gentle "Wrist" Diverts

  • Cans, bottles diverted in slugs or individually
  • Non-Cylindrical Products can also be Diverted
  • As the cable "Tendon" pulls, the UHMW "Wrist" Sweeps the product in a new Direction
  • For individual reject, slug sortation, bar code, QR Code, vision systems, or RFID
